DAY 01 & 02
Kandy / Peradeniya
Welcome & pick up. leave to Kandy. Next Day Visit Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Gem Museum, kandy Cultural Show. Over night kandy.
Temple of Tooth : Seated on the bank of the lake at the eastern side of Kandy’s town center is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic which is one of the important places to visit in Sri Lanka. Being one of Sri Lanka’s most important Temple, the significance here, as its name suggests, is that it houses the relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth.
Peradeniya Botanical Gardens : Peradeniya are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is near the Mahaweli River. It is renowned for its collection of orchids.
Cultural Show: It shows the uniqueness of the Sri Lankan dance performances and the drummers who are very unique to Sri Lanka.
DAY 03
Sigiriya
After breakfast leave to sigiriya on the way visit to Hindu temple, Matale Aluvihare, Dambulla Cave Temple. Over night Sigiriya.
Matale Aluvihare, here is a huge rock, east of the main rock cave, it has not cut off the light . Therefore it was known as the Aloka lena (cave with light.Surrounded by hills, the famous Aluvihara cave temple 30 km south of Kandy on the Matale-Dambulla road is of great historic importance. The history of Aluvihara is traced back to the 3rd Century B.C in the reign of King Devanampiyatissa. It is believed that the King built the dagoba and planted the Bo sapling.
Dambulla cave temple (also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla) is a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka. The Dambulla cave monastery is still functional and remains the best-preserved ancient edifice in Sri Lanka. This complex dates from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, when it was already established as one of the largest and most important monasteries. King Valagambahu sought refuge here from South Indian usurpers for 15 years during his exile from Anuradhapura. After reclaiming his capital, the king converted the caves into a temple in the 1st century BC. Many other kings added to it later and by the 11th century, the caves had become a major religious centre and still are.
DAY 04
Polonnaruwa
Visit Polonnaruwa, Safari by jeep. After back to Anuradhapura. Over night Anuradhapura.
Polonnaruwa was a great city in Sri Lanka which came in to prominence during its’ brief period of 2 Centuries of Sri Lankan history, being second only to the ancient city of Anuradhapura in ancient cultural heritage. Polonnaruwa today is a showcase of the great ancient Sri Lankan architecture dating back to 12th Century AD ,which was interwoven with many Buddhist monasteries and monuments which were built by the King Parakramabahu I.
DAY 05
Anuradhapura / Mihintale
Visit Anuradhapura and Evening Mihintale. Over Night Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura city became the Capital of Anuradhapura Kingdom in the 4th Century BC. It remained as the capital city for 15 centuries and was a prominent political and trade center in South Asia during this period. Ruwanwelisaya, an ancient stupa, is revered by the Buddhist community. Thuparamaya enshrines the collarbone of the Buddha and is considered to be the first dagaba, or pagoda, built in Sri Lanka. Lovamahapaya also known as the Brazen Palace is between the Ruwanvaliseya and Sri Maha Bodhiya. Jetavanarama is the largest stupa in Sri Lanka. As well as these beautiful places there are other stupas and relics, soaring over the vast acres of paddy fields in the area.
Mihintale is a mountain peak near Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka
